A Foundation Built on Craftsmanship

I grew up in my father’s woodshop, surrounded by tools, materials, and the process of building things the right way. My father is the founder of McNaught Guitars, and from an early age I learned the value of patience, precision, and pride in your work—lessons that still shape how I approach every project today.

I’ve always had an instinct for fixing things and creating with my hands. That curiosity eventually led me to serve in the United States Air Force, where I developed discipline, accountability, and a strong respect for systems that work as they should. Afterward, I continued my education at Appalachian State University, where my path toward hands-on building truly took shape.

Where It All Came Together

While in college, I moved into my uncle’s cabin in the Appalachian Mountains and began renovating the basement into a British-themed pub. (the full project can be viewed here: The Shim – Project Portfolio).That project became a turning point—blending design, carpentry, problem-solving, and creativity into a single space. It confirmed what I already knew: I enjoy building environments people can truly live in and enjoy.

Balancing indoor projects with outdoor work felt natural. I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands—whether that’s inside a home or outside shaping the space around it. 

From a Yellow Truck to a Growing Business

During college, I purchased a 1965 yellow truck and began taking on small jobs—repairs, improvements, and odd projects wherever help was needed. Word spread quickly. What started as a way to support myself during school grew into something much larger.

For the past four years, I’ve been building McNaught LLC through consistent work, honest communication, and attention to detail. Today, I continue to serve part-time with the Air National Guard, while running the business full-time.

Working Alongside Family

For home remodeling projects, I sometimes work alongside my father. It’s something we both enjoy, and it allows us to bring generations of experience and craftsmanship into each project. That collaboration reinforces what McNaught LLC stands for: quality work, thoughtful execution, and respect for the spaces we’re trusted to improve.
